Why teachers need a doorbell on their classroom door
You may have seen teachers with doorbells on their classroom doors lately. It’s certainly not just for fun. This is because many administrators have asked teachers to ditch the magnets that once slid smoothly in the door to allow students to come and go as they pleased. As a new security precaution, magnets are no longer allowed at many schools. This is particularly problematic for elementary school teachers who constantly have students entering and leaving the classroom all day for bathroom breaks, speech, resources, etc. Unfortunately, teaching is loud and chaotic sometimes, which makes it so those students who are trying to get back into class are sometimes not heard the first time. So, naturally, the students pull on the door until the whole class is distracted. Once you let them in, somebody is at the door again. It is like a fun little game that nobody wins.
The solution is very simple: get a doorbell that emits a blinking light with no sounds. Assign a student to be the door person and put the battery-operated receiver on their desk. Mount the doorbell button outside of your door, and voila! No more distractions. You can also have it play a brief, quiet sound just to ensure that nobody goes unnoticed. I have two receivers personally and one doorbell button. One receiver is on my podium, and the other is on the student’s desk. That way I can make sure that the bell does not goe unnoticed. As a bonus, I have an extra button just in case I ever need it. I spent hours hunting down the perfect doorbell, and this is the one that worked the very best for my needs.
